Tripp Bulla III, P.E., LEED AP


Tripp Bulla is a Principal and Director of the Charlotte, North Carolina office. As Director, Tripp oversees client relations, project supervision, design coordination and project management from conceptual design through construction administration. He brings over 35 years of experience with projects varying from multi-family wood frame structures to high-rise steel and concrete structures in locations across the country. Tripp approaches every project with a spirit of partnership with the entire team, ensuring that both he and the Architects share a singular creative vision. His interest in heavy glued laminated timber construction has resulted in several award winning projects utilizing this environmentally “green” material. His projects have been in the categories of office, cultural, education, government, residential, healthcare and aviation. Tripp is the co-founder of Bulla Smith Design Engineering (BSDE) founded in 1999. In April 2017, after many years of professional collaboration, SDL and BSDE formalized an 18 year relationship by merging and becoming one firm.

Tripp received his Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Cornell University and his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University. He is a LEED accredited professional and is a registered Professional Engineer in North and South Carolina.
