Emory University Health Science Center Pedestrian Bridge Erection

Stanley D. Lindsey and Associates, Ltd (SDL) provided an erection and stability plan for the erection and stabilization of a two-story tall, 270,000 pound truss. SDL’s services included reviewing and coordinating the connection design for erection forces with the steel fabricator, designing temporary shoring systems including cable diaphragms to resist construction wind forces, and designing lifting lugs, shoring beams, and other rigging for the main truss lift. SDL provided a comprehensive lifting plan containing erection steps that was used in conjunction with the erector’s crane plan to facilitate the lift. As the bridge crosses a main thoroughfare within the Emory campus, it was decided to fabricate the bridge as a unit on the ground and lift the entire assembly into place over one weekend to minimize traffic disruption.
