A $30 million renovation and addition to the existing dining hall on the main campus of UNC Greensboro.  Portions of the renovation involved structures dating back to the early 1900’s.  New construction features include an entrance to the building off the campus courtyard and a monumental heavy timber structure over the center of the facility.  The arched glulam roof structure was designed to resolve the complex challenges imposed by the five existing building wings arranged around the pentagon shaped building.  Construction was done while activities continued. A 60” storm drainage culvert was installed under the addition to carry the 500-year storm event and eliminate flooding potential of the existing building. Services provided: Structural Engineering and Civil Engineering
